How to Cover Word Albums

Word Bloom Album Instructions

by Heart of Texas Studio, Pam Sivage

For the instructions I have used the Word Bloom, Baby, however the same principal applies to each Word Bloom.

  • Select coordinating papers of your choice. I choose one sheet of paper for each letter in the word. Remember, you have to do the back and front. For 5 letters, I would pick 5 sheets of paper to cover the letters and add 1 additional for decorating.

  • Supplies:

Acrylic Paint and/or ink for edges

Foam paint brush for painting edges of WB.

Crafters Pick glue or any good wet adhesive

Dry adhesive, I use the atg gun but any adhesive will work

Sanding tools, ex. Emory board, sand paper etc. I use the Basic Grey sanding tool kit.

Exacto knife, with a new sharp blade. I change blades on each new Word Bloom album I do. I use the Fiskars fingertip control Craft knife….love it!

Glass cutting mat

Brayer. You can use a rolling pin, glass or anything to roll over your letters after you glue them.

·         Instructions:

Select the Word Bloom of your choice and one sheet of paper for each letter. You can add an additional sheet if you are using a flat back page and one sheet for additional embellishment

Paint all of the edges in about ˝ inch from edge, on both side of each letter. I use acrylic paint and foam brush, but you can ink if you choose. Let each piece dry for a few minutes.

I start with the first letter and work my way to the last. I use dry adhesive on all the straight edges. I glue around each straight edge then strips about 1 ˝ in. apart up and down the center of the letter. Then a strip of dry adhesive horizontal through the center of the word.

I use Crafters Pick (wet adhesive) on all the curves. I spread it with an old credit card to smooth the glue out, and wipe off any that has gotten on the edges.

Glue the letters face down on the back side of your paper. I use a brayer to make sure the glue is adhered. You can use a rolling pin; glass, anything to apply equal pressure to get a good attachment. I do each front letter first and let each letter dry.

After each letter is dry, using an exacto knife and glass mat cut around each letter. Cut slowly and take your time until you get used to the knife. Important: I use a new blade each time I do a new Word Bloom Album.

Sand each letter after you have covered the front. If you have covered the holes and plan to use rings, don’t forget to punch the holes on the front side and when you cover the back side punch the holes again. If you are using a Bind It All, do not punch the holes. Bind it after both sides of the letters are covered. Repeat the same instructions for covering the back of the letters. The back of the letters should already be painted. After you cut the letters out again, sand the back and any other finishing sanding.

You are now ready to embellish, add pictures and enjoy your Word Bloom.

If you are going to use the Bind It All, follow the directions for binding.

If you are using rings, I embellish the book and attach the rings and tie ribbons as the final step.
